As a youth, it was fascinating to watch my father working in his shop.  A gunsmith by trade, he  meticulously shaped both wood and metal to create custom firearms.  It was there that I learned to love working with my hands, and also developed an appreciation for fine craftsmanship.

My formal study of woodworking and furniture design began at Brigham Young University and was continued at North Texas State University.  I completed my schooling by earning a Masters degree in Industrial Technology with a minor in Interior Design from the University of North Texas.

While in college, I worked in several conventional cabinet shops as well as apprenticing as a violin maker. Later, I broadened my woodworking skills designing and building horse drawn sleighs and carriages for Carriage Works in Klamath Falls, Oregon.  I became a professional woodworker in 1988 and soon after, I started my own business creating custom furniture.

Now, I continue to study new furniture design trends and woodworking techniques, as well as to research period furniture and traditional construciton methods.  Because of my strong background in this field, I have been asked to serve several times as adjunct faculty for the University of North Texas teaching the History of Furniture (an upper level class required for Interior Design majors).

In June 2007, Mayfield Woodworking & Design opened a new studio & shop in Denton County, between Argyle and Denton on Fort Worth Drive.  The larger space and more effiecient work layout is a great improvement and has allowed me to expand my operations.

My goal is to help people enhance their environments by providing furniture of the highest quality: structuraly sound, comfortable, and attractive. Each client, whether seeking a corporate conference table, an inspiring alter, or a rustic poster bed, becomes a partner in developing the design, selecting the wood, and choosing the best finish for their project. The result is a piece of furniture unique to that client's personal tastes and needs; a creation of beauty and integrity they will be proud to own. Come experience how Mayfield Woodworking can enhance your environment.
